(February 2005) In December 2004, the British Journal of Dermatology published an informative paper about the use of botulinum toxin (Botox) for the treatment of focal hyperhidrosis.
According to the paper, titled "The place of botulinum toxin type A in the treatment of focal hyperhidrosis," botulinum toxin type A (Botox) injections are an effective, valuable, and well-tolerated treatment of localized (or focal) excessive sweating. The paper recommends that Botox treatments be considered alongside other more established or accepted treatments (such as anti-perspirants).
Two of the authors of the paper, Professor Henning Hamm from Germany and Dr. Anna Campanati from Italy, are active supporters of the International Hyperhidrosis Society and recently served as faculty of our Sister Society Symposium at the Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) in Florence, Italy. Professor Markus Naumann hails from Germany and was also an author of the paper, is on our Board of Directors and was the Chair of our symposium in Italy. As you can see, we are in good company and lead by the world's finest minds. Thank you doctors!
