Approval of BOTOX Gets Massive Media Attention
(September 2004) The US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of BOTOX® for the treatment of underarm hyperhidrosis has garnered so much media attention that more than 368.2 million people from around the world have been exposed to the news and to the International Hyperhidrosis Society.

Soon after the approval, we began to receive markedly increased traffic to our Web site, phone calls from reporters, and increased patient and physician registrations for our Physician Finder database. Of special note, Web site traffic and massive numbers of Physician Finder registrations were coming in from all over the world! Welcome to you all. We are so glad you found us.

To date, the BOTOX hyperhidrosis launch is the fourth most media-covered pharmaceutical launch in history. That's great news for Allergan, the maker of BOTOX, but also for the International Hyperhidrosis Society, hyperhidrosis sufferers, and their supporters. The more people who know about and understand hyperhidrosis the better! While stories covering the FDA approval ranged from briefs to features, each has helped to raise awareness of the devastating effects of excessive sweating and to inform physicians and sufferers that BOTOX is a breakthrough treatment option. Anyone who sweats excessively should know that a visit to their doctor may help them stop suffering. The 368.2 million media impressions related to the BOTOX approval have helped to ensure that more and more hyperhidrosis sufferers will also know that. Additionally, it is our hope that the media attention will encourage more research into the causes of excessive sweating and help to promote research into new treatments and cures.
