TV Makes Progress with "Jake in Progress"
(April 2005) It's not often that we see a realistic portrayal of person suffering from hyperhidrosis on television -- especially on a major network comedy series. But this spring you can see just that. Tune in to ABC's "Jake in Progress" on Thursday nights to watch John Stamos as a celebrity publicist who suffers from excessive sweating.

The International Hyperhidrosis Society commends the "Jake in Progress"' writers and producers for their portrayal of excessive sweating as a serious medical condition and also for their empathetic depiction of how hyperhidrosis affects Jake's (John Stamos') day-to-day life.

Jake tries using powder to soak up excess sweat, changes clothes multiple times throughout the day, and wipes his hands prior to physical contact. He, like many who suffer from excessive sweating, also endures embarrassment and social stigma.

It is our hope that by portraying a likeable and attractive character as a hyperhidrosis sufferer, ABC will help overcome the negative stigma of excessive sweating and encourage viewers to treat those affected by the condition with compassion. We also hope that "Jake in Progress" might convince people who are suffering in silence to consult a doctor about their sweating, because there are treatment options that can provide much-needed relief.

If you would like to show your support for compassionate, realistic portrayals of hyperhidrosis on television, write to ABC's "Jake in Progress." Tell the writers and producers that you take hyperhidrosis seriously and that you're glad they do too. Send your letters to:
